Ruben Amorim's replacement at Sporting CP set to be fired just weeks after arriving to replace Man United boss
Sporting CP are set to fire head coach Joao Pereira, who replaced Ruben Amorim as manager of the Portuguese club only six weeks ago.
Pereira took over as Sporting manager just after Amorim departed to join Manchester United. The new manager had big shoes to fill, following the man who guided the club to their first Liga Portugal title in 19 years in 2020-21, followed by another league success the previous season.

Sporting were at the top of the table when Pereira took over, having just defeated Manchester City in the Champions League in one of Amorim's final games in command. Despite starting his tenure with a 6-0 victory, they have now lost four consecutive matches and are now behind Benfica in the championship race. Although they have won two and drawn one of their previous three games, according to the Record, the coach's tenure is almost ended, with Pereira admitting he is on his way out.
Pereira, who appeared 40 times for the Portugal national team, finished his playing career at Sporting and was appointed coach of the club's Under 23s team in 2022 before taking over the reserves just a few months later. The Lisbon club has only won three of its eight games under him, drawing one.
Sporting have already compiled a list of potential successors and are apparently in discussions with their preferred prospect. By the time they meet rivals and league leaders Benfica on December 29, a new manager may have taken over.
