Manchester United make contact to sign 'star' £40 million+ midfielder for Ruben Amorim

Manchester United have made contact to sign a midfielder worth more than £40 million for head coach Ruben Amorim, according to a recent report.

Amorim made it clear in his recent news conference that he wants Manchester United to do some business in the January transfer window, and he and the hierarchy will keep an eye out for prospective transactions. However, what they can achieve this month appears to be dependent on whatever players depart the club in the following weeks.

Forward Joshua Zirkzee may be a player that moves on so that the Red Devils can bring in an improvement. According to recent reports, Zirkzee is in discussions to quit United and join Italian heavyweights Juventus. The Serie A club is allegedly in negotiations with the forward's representation, but would prefer a loan transfer over the permanent exit that United are seeking.

Dusan Vlahovic of Juventus may replace the Dutchman at Old Trafford. If Zirkzee leaves, the Red Devils will most likely want to recruit a new striker, and the Premier League side are interested in the Serbian, with a swap deal not out of the question. Juventus manager Thiago Motta worked with Zirkzee at Bologna and is still a huge fan of the striker, and he may be prepared to allow Vlahovic depart, who has yet to sign a new deal, in order to rejoin with the Netherlands international.

As talks about buying a new striker continue, TEAMtalk reports that Manchester United and INEOS have made contact to purchase Inter Milan midfielder Davide Frattesi.

The 25-year-old, dubbed "special" by journalist Wayne Girard, joined Inter on a permanent basis this summer. Frattesi joined the Serie A champions on loan from Sassuolo for the 2023/24 season, which was then converted into a permanent contract during the summer transfer window.

Frattesi is under contract until the summer of 2028, but Manchester United appear to be aiming to move him to England in 2025. TEAMtalk says that the Red Devils have inquired about the midfielder's availability, although they face stiff competition from Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Roma.

Appearances. 63

Goals. 11

Assists. 8

Frattesi has started only eight of Inter's 21 games this season, but despite his lack of consistency, the club are unlikely to move him or any other player until after the Club World Cup this summer. If United sign Frattesi, they will have to spend roughly £41.5 million, which is what Inter values him at. Amorim might be looking for a new midfielder, since Christian Eriksen appears to be on his way out at the conclusion of his contract; Casemiro is also being linked with a transfer away, while Mason Mount's injury troubles remain.
