Manchester United's summer clearout: 10 players who must be 'SOLD TO REVIVE' the Red Devils
After another frustrating defeat, this time a 1-0 loss to Nottingham Forest, Manchester United finds itself in the midst of a catastrophic 2024-25 season. Manager Ruben Amorim, who took over in November 2024, expressed his concerns, emphasizing the immense pressure at Old Trafford. "In Manchester United, you don't have the time," Amorim remarked following the loss, underscoring the urgency for change.

This defeat marked United's 13th in the Premier League, matching the club's all-time worst tally from the previous season. With only eight matches remaining, United is now seven points adrift of 10th place, all but confirming their absence from continental football for the first time in a decade unless they secure a Europa League title.
Amorim, who signed a contract through 2027, faces mounting pressure to reshape the team. His future, as well as the club's direction, hinges on a transformative summer transfer window that could see as many as 10 first-team players depart, alongside free agents like Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelöf. The Portuguese manager’s next challenge is deciding who stays and who must go to make room for new talent.
1. Rasmus Højlund
Despite costing £72 million, Højlund has struggled to deliver the goods at Manchester United, netting only eight goals in 40 appearances across all competitions. With top strikers like Viktor Gyökeres and Victor Osimhen available, United cannot afford to wait for the Danish forward to fulfill his potential.
2. Antony
After a failed stint at Old Trafford, Antony has revived his form on loan at Real Betis. However, United should not be fooled into thinking he deserves another chance. His lackluster Premier League performance, with only five goals and three assists over two seasons, signals the need for a permanent departure.
3. André Onana
Onana was expected to be the final piece of Erik ten Hag's project, but his erratic performances have been a major liability for the team. With numerous high-profile mistakes, including costly errors in defeats to Forest and Brighton, the Cameroonian goalkeeper has proven to be a significant downgrade from David de Gea. United must prioritize replacing him in the summer.
4. Marcus Rashford
Although Rashford has shown flashes of brilliance, his inconsistency makes him unreliable. His tendency to underperform for extended periods makes him a disruptive figure within the squad. If Aston Villa or another club offers £40 million for Rashford, United should not hesitate to sell.
5. Mason Mount
Mount's debut season at Old Trafford has been marred by injuries, limiting him to just nine Premier League starts. His £60 million price tag is not reflected in his performances, and his chronic fitness issues raise doubts about his long-term viability. United should consider moving him on while they still can.
6. Tyrell Malacia
Malacia’s promising first season was overshadowed by a long-term knee injury, and after his return, he has struggled to reclaim a starting spot. A loan to PSV has allowed him to regain form, and it would be best for both parties if he stays in the Netherlands rather than returning to a crowded United squad.
7. Jadon Sancho
Sancho’s time at Manchester United has been underwhelming, and his loan spell at Chelsea has done little to convince that he is cut out for the Premier League. United should facilitate his permanent move back to Borussia Dortmund or any other interested party to cut their losses.
8. Diogo Dalot
Dalot, often seen as a dependable option, has failed to live up to expectations. His inconsistency, both in defense and attack, makes him an unworthy regular starter for United. Despite rumors linking him with elite clubs like Real Madrid, it would be wise for United to cash in on him while possible.
9. Casemiro
The Brazilian has been a key figure for Real Madrid and United but is now in decline. At 33, Casemiro struggles to keep pace with the Premier League’s demands, and United must seek a younger, more dynamic midfielder. Saudi clubs are reportedly interested, providing an opportunity to offload him for a decent fee.
10. Luke Shaw
Shaw’s career at United has been plagued by injuries, and at 29, he is no longer the player he once was. His limited appearances and ongoing fitness concerns mean that it may be time for United to part ways, possibly by releasing him early from his contract, saving both wages and future complications.
The 2024-25 season has exposed the frailties of Manchester United's squad, and drastic action is needed to restore the club to its former glory. By offloading these players and focusing on new signings, Amorim can begin the long process of rebuilding the team. A summer of change is imminent, and United's future will depend on how well they manage this transition.
